Child Care Grant
Funds for the Child Care Grant are limited and eligibility standards will be strictly observed. Students with the greatest need will be served first. Eligibility requirements are subject to change without notice.
Financial Aid Eligibility
Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the 2009-2010 academic year and must be eligible to receive the Pell Grant.

These eligibility standards are adopted from the 2007 Child Care Services Income Eligibility Standards of Wake County Human Services.
Student Status Eligibility
- Students are required to earn and maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.00.
- Child Care will only be paid while parents are in classes.Students must be enrolled in the College/University Transfer, Associate Degree or Diploma Programs.
- Priority will be given in the following order if students have similar financial needs:
- Students previously enrolled in the Child Care Grant Program who is enrolled full-time.
- Full-time students at Wake Technical Community College.
- Part-time students at Wake Technical Community College.
What does the Child Care Grant cover?
The Child Care Grant will cover a student's full daycare cost for a maximum of two (2) children and up to $650 per child per month at any licensed in-home or daycare facility in Wake County. Daycare costs that exceed $650 per child per month will be the responsibility of the student. The Child Care Grant does not cover Registration costs or costs that the student may incur due to not giving the proper notification prior to removing their child from a provider's facility. The Child Care Grant will cover during the fall, spring, and Christmas break.
What is the length of time that the Child Care Grant is awarded?
The Child Care Grant will be awarded prior to the beginning of Fall Semester of each academic year. The Child Care Grant will be awarded for a full academic year (Fall and Spring Semesters) providing that the student applies for both semesters. Students may apply for only one semester, if they choose. If a student is awarded the Child Care Grant, their eligibility (income, GPA, program of study, etc) will be verified at the end of each semester prior to the beginning of the next semester. Once a student reaches their goal of graduating from a diploma or degree program at Wake Tech, they are not eligible to receive the Child Care Grant for an additional diploma or degree.
What is required of students who are accepted into the Child Care Grant?
Students who are accepted into the Child Care Grant Program are required to:
- Submit monthly attendance sheets documenting regular class attendance.
- Make sure that their child(ren) attends daycare regularly.
- Complete the required Merit Point Activities each semester, which includes:
- Completing an academic related activity (attending a workshop, etc).
- View parenting related videos.
- Contributing material to the Child Care Grant Newsletter.
- Reporting for a Mid-Semester Review.
- Reporting for an End-of-Semester Review.
